Sting
2001-11-25 @ 1:17 a.m.

I watched this thing on A&E tonight, "Sting in Tuscany". I'm not a big Sting fan...I mean I guess some of his stuff is really beautiful and heartfelt, but I just miss when he rocked with The Police. I liked his "Dream of the Blue Turtles" when I was in high school. And I really liked the song "Fragile" a few years later, I even bought the spanish version of it.

The show on A&E was interesting, because it was set to be filmed right around September 11th, and then, of course, everything changed. It was sort of a documentary of his band rehearsing for the original filming, and then it showed them reacting to the Sept 11th thing, and deciding what to play, and if to play at all. They were undecided over "Fragile", but ultimately decided to play it, and the lyrics are pretty haunting in respect to Sept 11th...interesting, considering the song was written like at least ten years ago.

"If blood will flow when flesh and steel are one

Drying in the color of the evening sun

Tomorrow's rain will wash the stains away

But something in our minds will always stay

Perhaps this final act was meant

To clinch a lifetime's argument

That nothing comes from violence

and nothing ever could

For all those born beneath an angry star

Lest we forget how fragile we are

On and on the rain will fall

Like tears from a star like tears from a star

On and on the rain will say

How fragile we are

How fragile we are

On and on the rain will fall

Like tears from a star like tears from a star

On and on the rain will say

How fragile we are

How fragile we are"

He also sang "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You", a song that I never got too attached to when it was popular, but it hit me in the gut tonight...because of Jon.

"You could say I lost my faith in science and progress

You could say I lost my belief in the holy church

You could say I lost my sense of direction

You could say all of this and worse, but

If I ever lose my faith in you

There'd be nothing left for me to do

Some would say I was a lost man in a lost world

You could say I lost my faith in the people on TV

You could say I'd lost my belief in our politicians

They all seemed like game show hosts to me

If I ever lose my faith in you

There'd be nothing left for me to do

I could be lost inside their lies without a trace

But every time I close my eyes I see your face

I never saw no miracle of science

That didn't go from a blessing to a curse

I never saw no military solution

That didn't always end up as something worse, but

Let me say this first

If I ever lose my faith in you

There'd be nothing left for me to do"

I'll be with Jon in a week! I'll never lose my faith in him.
